Merge objects in Sinom

Learn how to merge several components, spaces or actions into one record and what to choose when values conflict.

Written by Anders Nothzén

Merge turns several similar objects into one. The feature is available for components, floor areas and actions. Properties, buildings and plans cannot be merged.

The Merge to property level setting in the merge panel does not merge properties. It aggregates or places the result at property level.

If you want to turn one object into several instead, use Split.

When should I use this?

  • You have duplicates after an import or inventory, for example two "Roof" components on the same building.

  • You have split things too finely and have three floor areas that are really one.

  • You have two measures in the same year, of the same type and in the same plan that should become one.

How merging works

The panel has two columns. On the left you see the objects you selected, and on the right you see the result after the merge.

  • Reference: the object whose values are used when fields conflict. You choose it with Select as reference.

  • Sum (per field): the values are added together, for example quantity, area, cost and lists.

  • Reference (per field): the reference object's value is kept for that specific field.

  • Property level: the result is aggregated or placed at property level. This option is not always shown.

Permissions

You normally need the User or Admin role. Read-only and Inspector users usually do not see the feature. Read more in User roles.

Components

Requirements

  • You select at least 2 and at most 19 components.

  • All components belong to the same real estate.

  • Quantities are only summed for components with the same unit as the reference. Different units, such as pcs and m², cannot be combined freely.

How to merge components

  1. Go to Inventory → Components and select the components you want to merge.
If you select 20 or more, the message "Cannot merge 20 or more…" is shown. If the components belong to different properties, you need to change your selection first.

  2. Click Merge in the toolbar. The Merge components panel opens.

  3. Review the list of selected components on the left.

  4. If fields conflict, choose a reference component with Choose as reference.

  5. Choose Sum or Reference for each field, for example quantity, responsible persons, spaces and tags.

  6. Select Aggregate inspection history if you want to keep the history from several components. Select Property level if needed.

  7. Click Merge to confirm.

The reference component is the one that is kept. The other components are merged into it.

Floor areas

Requirements

  • You select at least 2 and at most 19 spaces.

  • The feature is not available to Read-only or Inspector users.

How to merge floor areas

  1. Go to Inventory → Floor areas and select the spaces you want to merge.

  2. Click Merge in the toolbar. The Merge spaces panel opens.

  3. If fields conflict, choose a reference floor area.
You cannot continue until the conflicts are resolved with a reference.

  4. Choose Sum or Reference for quantity, area, responsible persons, components and tags.

  5. Select Property level if needed.

  6. Check the area and linked components in the result column on the right.

  7. Click Merge to confirm.

Measures

Requirements

You select at least two actions. Sinom stops the merge with the message "Cannot merge actions" if any of the following applies:

  • The actions belong to the same schedule or parent action, that is, the same series.

  • One of the actions is Completed.

  • A sub-action is selected without its main action. A sub-action must be merged together with its linked main action.

  • The sub-actions belong to different main actions.

  • The actions belong to different real estates.

  • The actions belong to different maintenance plans.

How to merge measures

  1. Go to Planning → Planned actions and select at least two actions.

  2. Click Merge in the toolbar. If you have selected several actions in the action panel, you can choose ⋮ → Merge instead. The Merge measures panel opens.
If the merge is blocked, correct the underlying data (plan, status or links) and try again.

  3. If fields conflict, choose a reference action.
Some cards are shown with "Cannot be reference" and cannot be selected.

  4. Choose Sum or Reference for cost, quantity, components, spaces and tags.
Quantities are only summed for actions with the same quantity type as the reference.

  5. Read the warnings about cost per unit and different quantity types.
If you choose Sum for both cost and quantity, the cost per unit may change. Make sure this is intentional.

  6. Select Property level if needed.

  7. Click Merge to confirm.

Tips

  • Start with actions of the same type, in the same year and in the same plan. That way you get fewer conflicts.

  • Open the result after the merge and spot-check links and history.
